Beaver fur is the best felting material available. The felt is tight yet supple and a beaver hat will hold it's shape far better under rough wear and successive wettings than felt made from wool or other types of fur.

In the 17th century castorhats (from lat. castor = beaver), i.e. beaverfur hats were held in such high esteem, that wearing them was an exclusive right of the nobility.
According to the World Conservation Union (IUCN) the Canadian Beaver (Castor canadensis) does not qualify for a more at risk category. Widespread and abundant taxa are included in this category.

The price is quite moderate considering the market prices for finished beaver hats…
